Gilchrist Connell – New Principal and Seniors in Sydney and Brisbane

Gilchrist Connell, a leading Australian insurance sector law firm, is very pleased to announce a new Principal and senior appointments in its Sydney and Brisbane offices.  A recently recognised legal ‘Employer of Choice’, the firm’s expansion is set to further continue over the coming weeks.

Brett Solomon has joined the firm’s fast-growing Brisbane office as Principal, and is accompanied by Associate Cody Nguyen, while lawyer Tom O’Donnell will add to Brisbane’s workplace capability.  In Sydney, Special Counsel Helen Tieu and Senior Associate Tiarn Pauletto have boosted the senior ranks.

Renowned litigation lawyer and insurance specialist Brett Solomon has extensive experience in the Brisbane market in which he has operated for nearly three decades. He acts for Australian and London based insurers and insureds in a broad range of industries including financial services, construction, resources and energy, property, retail, manufacturing, medical and leisure industries.

Helen Tieu brings specialist coverage, financial institutions and D&O expertise to the Sydney team and her substantial insurance industry experience includes PI claims, class actions and several years working in-house and in private practice, both within Australia and overseas.

Tiarn Pauletto has extensive insurance experience both within law firms and in-house in professional indemnity claims for a large insurer.  She has worked across a multitude of jurisdictions for a diverse range of clients across Australia.

Cody Nguyen boosts the Brisbane team’s capability in casualty and professional indemnity.  He has been involved in a number of high profile financial services, environmental and product liability class actions in various state and federal jurisdictions.

“We are delighted that we are able to attract talent of this quality – particularly in the current competitive labour market faced by insurance sector firms.  We have no doubt that our clients will welcome the additional skills and experience that Brett, Helen, Tom, Tiarn and Cody provide in Brisbane and Sydney,” said Managing Principal Richard Wood.

GC was recently named an ‘Employer of Choice’ by a major legal publisher, and effectively maintained national client service standards – as well as staff levels, flexibility and conditions throughout the year, including a number of wellbeing initiatives – despite the Covid-19 disruptions.

“2020 has had its moments as everyone knows, but our clients have been busier than ever as a result and so require increased support and assistance from us. This expansion – plus another half dozen positions we expect to fill before Christmas – will enable us to keep providing our clients with the level of service, response and performance they are used to from us as we head in to 2021,” said Richard.
