New Consultant – Health Law

Gilchrist Connell is delighted to announce the arrival of Alison Fitzgerald who joins our Adelaide office as a consultant.  Alison will bring further depth and experience to the office’s senior ranks across a range of practice areas, and has significant expertise in health law.

Alison joins the firm having spent several years as Head of Medical Defence Services in South Australia at Avant Mutual, leading the team providing on the ground advice and defence to the state’s medical practitioners.

“We’re thrilled that Alison has agreed to join us, or in fact re-join us as she was in our team at our former firm longer ago than either of us care to remember. Her contribution will be invaluable in supporting our busy Adelaide team and her health law expertise will be a perfect complement to our growing national health and medical malpractice capability,” said managing principal Richard Wood.

Apart from her role at Avant, Alison’s career includes senior roles in a national law firm and for the SA Crown Solicitor.  She has also worked as a claims manager for a global broker and been a guest lecturer and tutor for Adelaide and Flinders Universities in the field of medical law.

Alison is currently on the board of the Burnside War Memorial Hospital and was the committee member with legal expertise on the Royal Adelaide Hospital Research Ethics Committee for three years.

Gilchrist Connell is a national general insurance and defendant-side dispute resolution firm prominently recognised and internationally networked with The Harmonie Group. Alison’s announcement is the latest in a number of senior appointments including the firm’s chairman John Edmond.
