Gilchrist Connell backs Young Insurance Professionals (YIPs)

Specialist insurance law firm Gilchrist Connell is  proud to announce its Australasian sponsorship of the dynamic industry membership group – Young Insurance Professionals [YIPs] Australia & New Zealand Inc.

The firm has an even closer association with the organisation, having just appointed YIPs founder and Australasian President Sampath Soysa, as Principal to Gilchrist Connell’s newly opened Melbourne office.

“As well as ‘sharing’ Sampath’s terrific leadership and legal talents, there’s a good fit for us with the YIPs sponsorship – Gilchrist Connell itself is still in its ‘youth’ having just marked its sixth birthday, and a decent proportion of our own staff fall in the YIPs target age range,” said Gilchrist Connell Managing Principal Richard Wood. “We also have a high proportion of female lawyers, being another area in common with YIPs which has a large number of female branch presidents and female members generally across its various branches.”

YIPs has quickly established itself as a highly relevant membership forum and resource for young professionals in the insurance industry – having grown its membership to over 3,000 members under Sampath’s leadership. Insurance can offer many rewarding career paths and opportunities, and to this end, YIPs offers excellent business networking and educational platforms via its website www.yips.org.au and the numerous events it runs throughout the year. Anyone who doesn’t think that insurance can be sexy or glam enough should check out YIPs on Instagram or Facebook!

“We’re looking forward to being involved with YIPs and see it as a vital and direct investment in attracting talent to and developing it within the insurance industry,” said Richard.

“Gilchrist Connell is glad to have this opportunity to contribute and stay in touch with topical issues affecting younger people who have chosen insurance as a long term career, via YIPs vibrant ‘movers and shakers’ and as the industry continues to evolve,” he said.

It’s been a busy month for Gilchrist Connell with Sampath’s appointment and the promotion of Justine Siavelis to Principal in GC’s Perth office among several senior appointments across all four offices.

Gilchrist Connell now has around 50 lawyers in its four offices and has more than doubled in size since it first opened six years ago.
