2016 Law Survey: Gilchrist Connell Leads in Workplace Flexibility

In a recent survey of Australian law firms, Gilchrist Connell came out on top, with the highest proportion of part-time fee-earners – well over double the industry average.

The firm was especially thrilled that this recognition coincided with the announcement it has been listed as a finalist in the Insurance Team division of this year’s Lawyer’s Weekly Australian Law Awards.

Managing Principal Richard Wood said, “We need good people. If good people want to work less than full-time, we would be crazy not to try very hard to accommodate them. The important thing for us is the trust and performance built up in a team of great people who have worked together for a period of time. Whether they are full-time or not is irrelevant.”

The firm has been highly successful in offering flexible work arrangements, with almost a quarter of its fee-earners working on a part-time basis. This flexibility has enabled the firm to attract and retain terrific talent, and helped GC earn its ranking as one of the fastest growing legal firms in the country.

Richard added, “We’re in a highly competitive industry, and we deliver primarily litigation services – so our clients have 24/7 demands and the Courts run full-time. I’m amazed at how efficiently our people operate to deliver market-leading service in that environment from part-time positions.“

Gilchrist Connell is now the only specialist insurance firm with offices in every mainland state.
