Kevin has practised exclusively in insurance claims since first being retained by FAI, HIH and Australian Eagle in the mid-70s. In over 40 years of practice he has predominately acted in the defence of personal injury and compensation claims. His client base has included major underwriters, self-insurers, medical defence funds and statutory bodies such as WorkCover, Comcare, Motor Accident Commission and the Local Government Association.
With special interest and extensive experience in medico-legal issues, Kevin has expertise across the range of injury-related claims, such as medical negligence, Coroner’s inquests, public liability and workers compensation. He has presented formal papers on medico-legal issues, including recommendations on how to best utilise independent medical experts.
Kevin has acted for both as solicitor and counsel in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, the Workers Compensation Tribunal and the Coroner’s Court. The different perspectives and experience as a solicitor and counsel have provided a valuable aid in the preparation of claims, in understanding the unpredictability of litigation and assessing the commercial value of a claim.
Kevin is well-practised in alternative dispute resolution, and knowing that delayed outcomes are generally more expensive, he is always alert for the opportunity for an early appropriate commercial resolution of claims.
