David has worked almost exclusively in insurance litigation throughout his career, and he has been with the firm since day one. He has experience in a wide variety of litigated and non-litigated matters involving engineering, building and construction, cyber/IT, property, professional liability, personal injury, liquor licensing and regulatory matters on both defendant side and subrogated recovery actions.
Some of his notable matters include:
- defending an insured sued following a large-scale fire started by a train which destroyed numerous buildings and businesses
- a class action brought by residents whose dwellings were flooded because of a misunderstanding of computer input parameters controlling a waterway
- a flood at a university caused by a contractor excavating a high-pressure water main hidden by ambiguous drawings and poor construction practices
- settling a trail derailment matter involving complex contractual relationships and guarantees.
David is known for his attention to detail and for obtaining pragmatic and practical solutions to complex problems.
As well as a law degree with honours David has a BSc in applied mathematics and computer science from Adelaide University. He designed, coded and maintained the firm’s file management and reporting software “Falcon” which operated in our Adelaide office for many years. This skill set affords David a unique insight into complex engineering/IT matters which gives him a better understand of the issues involved and what questions to ask.
In addition to running his busy practice, David is a keen soccer player and songwriter, receiving national and international acclaim for his song-writing and music videos.
