New Principals, new office, new appointments and promotions for Gilchrist Connell

Specialist insurance law firm Gilchrist Connell is extremely happy to announce the appointment of Justine Siavelis as Principal in its Perth office. This is Justine’s second senior promotion since Gilchrist Connell Perth opened in 2011.

“There are occasionally difficult decisions to be made in law firms, but promoting Justine was certainly not one of them,” said Gilchrist Connell’s Managing Principal Richard Wood.

“She has the confidence of a large number of our major insurers and her appointment will greatly assist our  team in Perth, led by Deborah Templeman, to continue to provide expanding services to our clients in the West.”

“We’re also thrilled to have each office announcing  senior staff appointments and promotions. We have three new senior appointments – Sampath Soysa as Principal in the firm’s newly launched Melbourne office, Ronan Guyomarc’h as Consultant in Sydney, and Jamie Ling as Senior Associate in Adelaide,” Richard said.

Heading the firm’s new Melbourne office, Sampath Soysa is highly experienced in Australian and New Zealand insurance law, having practised on both sides of the Tasman, and was recently ranked as being one of the  Top 100 Most Influential People in Insurance (source: Insurance Business magazine).

Bringing with him exceptional industry knowledge, Ronan Guyomarc’h is an insurance veteran, joining the firm after a long stint at one of the world’s largest insurers as a senior financial lines claims handler.

Jamie Ling is already well known to the firm, rejoining the group from its pre-GC days, having spent the intervening years honing his insurance law expertise in Sydney.

The firm has also made three other senior internal promotions – Melissa Eaton to Special Counsel in Adelaide plus Lisa Jones and Angela Ehsani to Senior Associate in Sydney.

Richard said, “All in all, a big month for the firm. I’m really proud of the internal promotions – all thoroughly deserved. Those, together with the new appointments will greatly increase our capabilities in Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne. The only reason we’re here is to provide services to our clients and that was the spur behind all these decisions”.

Gilchrist Connell now has around 50 lawyers in its four offices and has more than doubled in size since it first opened six years ago.
