High honour for Gilchrist Connell Principal

National specialist insurance law firm Gilchrist Connell is thrilled to congratulate Adelaide Principal John Homburg on his recent award of Life Membership of the Australian Insurance Law Association (AILA).

John is one of only a select few Australian insurance lawyers to have been recognised with this award for their major contribution to the advancement of insurance law.   His AILA role has given John an excellent understanding of the industry’s many and complex issues.

The Life Membership honour also acknowledges John’s outstanding service and high level of commitment to the AILA itself over many years as both a state and national committee member.

In recent years, John has made an invaluable contribution on the AILA national board, driving key development initiatives. He was President of AILA [SA] from 2005-2008 and has been a national board member since 2008. John has also held the demanding role of national treasurer since 2010.

“This is richly deserved recognition for John. He is one of hardest working people I know and his ‘extra-curricular’ work for AILA over the decades has been tiring to watch. He is also very much the ‘quiet achiever’, and needed a nudge just to let us go public with his announcement! As well as going above and beyond with his service to AILA, he is a well-recognised national leader in his field of health law and medical defence work with over 30 years’ experience,” said Gilchrist Connell’s Managing Principal Richard Wood.

John has a long and successful record defending complex medical malpractice claims, and is listed in Doyle’s Guide as a leading lawyer in this field. He also specialises in insurance and administrative law, particularly the representation of professionals before disciplinary Tribunals.

John initially graduated with a Certificate of Law from the Law Society of South Australia and now holds a Masters in Health and Medical Law. He is also an accredited mediator and a member of the Ethics Health Advisory Council.

This announcement is an exciting follow up to the firm’s recent Australasian Lawyer ranking as a top 10 fastest-growing law firm, winning the Lawyers Weekly Insurance Team of the Year, and being singled out as the most flexible legal workplace in Australia.
