Community: 2020

We see the world beyond the CBD ‘bubble’ and stay connected to the communities around us. We are also the first law firm to partner with GoodCompany – Australia’s largest unified workplace giving platform.

Rural and Remote Mental Health – out on the road and making a real difference

We’d like to highlight a cause that’s doing an extraordinary job in the community.

For over ten years, not-for-profit Rural and Remote Mental Health has been delivering early intervention, preventative and highly effective mental health programs for Australia’s remote workers and indigenous and farming communities.

These incorporate:

  • Resource Minds – for the mining, quarrying, resources and construction sector
  • Deadly Thinking – by and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Rural Minds – for agricultural, pastoral and farming communities.

All programs are:

  • Practical and inclusive
  • Evidence based
  • Designed to de-stigmatise mental ill-health and deliver information about mental health, well-being and suicide prevention
  • Culturally tailored
  • Delivered so that the knowledge and capability remains embedded in local communities.

Gathering goodies in Perth

Our Perth office has been busy gathering goodies for “No Limits Perth” this Christmas.  This charity works to make a difference by helping victims of domestic violence, homeless or at risk of homelessness, those affected by mental health, the elderly, sick children and single parented families.  https://www.nolimitsperth.org.au/

Dive In 2020

GC was extremely proud to be a part of the Dive In 2020 festival by sponsoring ‘Gender Equality – Visibility vs Silence’ – presented by high-profile inclusion and gender parity champion Amna Karra-Hassan.  While Amna said we still have a long way to go, her tireless work and insights on gender equality, racial acceptance, intersectionalism and making it in the world of Aussie rules football were truly inspirational.

It’s RU OK? Day – Every Day

RU OK? day in September is an important reminder that every day is a good day to ask ‘are you ok?’  if you think someone around you is struggling to cope at work or in their personal lives.

This year we recognised RU OK? day with a Zoom PT session, then a webinar about how to hold an RU OK? conversation – and how to respond when someone isn’t ok, followed by virtual one-on-one coffee catch-ups where staff were randomly paired up with a GC colleague.  This was a great way for us to continue to check in and connect across our multiple teams and offices.

RU OK? merchandise in all offices will remind us throughout the year to keep looking out for each other and offering our support.
